So happy about all the rain we are getting. Maybe the pastures were not to far gone to recover.
6 less horses on the 15 acres...we are down to 6 back there....so I hope that the hay bill will now start to drop as well.
Maggie has gone 2 weeks without choking. She had to be on a grass only diet for a week till her throat healed a bit...now back to her normal diet of grass, alfalfa and pellets. Poor ole' girl. Just cant chew her food like she used to.
Got so angry at Tristan and Max this morning. Once they see the barn gates open...it's like a game to them to come running through the barn to grab a mouthful of hay or dump grain buckets I have waiting to be put out. Well this morning, Tristan ran in....and dumped three buckets of grain, as well pulled down the back gate trying to escape. Guess he knew by the tone in my voice I was NOT happy!
Then Max....he thinks he is the prince of the property...so why should he not be able to come and go as he pleases. NEVER happy with the food he gets....has to come and try and steal more. Even if his bucket outside is STILL full of grain. So...he has been banished to the gelding field. Maybe a few days with the big boys...he will be more happy with his "other" situation.
Starlite seems to be feeling all better. And Piper...she has turned into such a sweetheart. Even Cassie is friendly. Kirby...well...Kirby thinks he is a 2 legged...so friendly is NOT an issue for him. Bailey even seems to be coming around now that we don't have to poke her all the time. Her leg is healing well. X-rays Monday to see if she can go out with her buddies.
And Miss Lucie....a bit upset with me that I let her halter get a bit tight. Kept telling myself to let it out a hole...and kept forgetting. She was NOT pleased with how it felt...SO I pulled it off all together. She's at least now letting us pet her again. Part of it, is that she HATES Kirby....HATES all the attention he gets.... SHE was the first Princess and doesn't want to share. Little does she know....She's STILL the princess.
Cutter is starting to have trouble chewing his hay...dentist coming next week to see if he can help. Hard to watch your friends get older...he's such a goof...love him so.
Gumbo is FINALLY putting on weight. We got to the issue in his foot, and between the vet and farrier...the pain is gone. Since tackling that issue...he has put on almost 200 pounds. So nice to look at him filling out and pain free.
Kobi...poor Kobi...such a talented show horse with such a huge issue in his foot. Of course...us two leggeds cant really understand his unsoundness with NOTHING on x-ray, ultra sounds or bone scans...he feels lost in his new roll as a pasture horse. Maybe someday we will find out what is hurting him.
Hope our 4th is quiet around here...I have a few fruit loops that wont handle the noise really well...
:)
